oh, woe is me!

Our commitment to Kyoto would have meant reducing our Green House Gas emissions to 571 megatonnes by 2010, 6% below 1990 levels.

The Clean Air Act would reduce GHG emissions by 45-60% of 2004 levels by 2050. In 2004 GHG levels were at 758 megatonnes. This would be a reduction to 341-454 megatonnes by 2050.

Good numbers to set as a goal, unfortunately the timeframe is too long to mitigate any of the damage we're already beginning to experience. Projecting those levels by 2020, would have been more compelling. What we got was more PR.
